Immigration WebQuest


 

 

 

 

  Introduction

The learning objectives are to:

  • explain how immigrants came to Ellis Island
  • recognize the symbolism of the Statue of Liberty to the immigrants
  • draw conclusions about life and work in America at the turn of the century

 

 

 

 

 

  The Task

Learn about the immigrant experience in American life. Students become history detectives and travel back in time to 1900. You will search for   clues to the past in pictures from the American Memory collections..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  The Process

 

1. Look at pictures and look for clues to put in the Detective Log Book.

2. Tour Ellis Island and write down the steps the immigrants had to take to enter the United States.

3. Read about 3 people that immigrated to the United States just 10 years ago.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Evaluation  

 

You will be evaluated on several things in this activity. The grading will be based on the following:

1.   You partially completed the Detective Log

2.   You completed all the information

3.   You drew a map of Ellis Island.

 

 

 

 

 

  Conclusion

Now you know how hard it was to come to the United States and become Americans.
